Despite a quiet summer at Tottenham, optimism at the club remains high, and with good reason. The Lilywhites have made a decent start to the season, and though they’ve already lost a game, their form more generally has been solid enough.
However, solid enough doesn’t cut it at the highest level, and on current form, it seems unlikely that they will get even close to the likes of Man City and Liverpool at the top of the table come next May.
Clearly, then, a change could be good at Tottenham, and one player that is yet to have much of a chance is young Harry Winks. His lack of experience and uncertain fitness record have, naturally, made Mauricio Pochettino cautious to give him too many minutes, but it seems that the time may be right for him to get a chance.
After all, he offers something that Spurs are lacking at present – creativity. He’s got a brilliant range of passing and a great eye for a pass, meaning that he would be able to provide Harry Kane with even more chances. Beyond that, he’s also an extremely hard worker, and for a club like Tottenham, that’s essential given how Mauricio Pochettino lines his team up.
Also, when you consider the mixed form of Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele, there is obviously room for someone like Winks to get a chance. He offers different qualities to the aforementioned trio, not to mention that it’s important for him to get minutes as Spurs look to build to the future.
It’s easy for Mauricio Pochettino to utilise proven talent, but changes are always needed if a title challenge is expected. Pochettino needs to be unpredictable, and Winks would provide some serious quality in the midfield.
