The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern had been fearing the worst regarding their side’s goalkeeping situation at the start of the season. Simon Mignolet was the man tasked with being between the sticks, and over the course of much of the campaign, he did very little to suggest that he was up to the job.
But even then, few fans had faith in Loris Karius, owing to his poor form following his arrival at Anfield.
However, in the end, Jurgen Klopp opted to give his German compatriot a chance – and he has been repaid ten-fold for that faith. Over the last month or two, Karius – who stands at a towering 6ft2 – has emerged as one of the surprise packages of the season so far.
He is now, undoubtedly, Liverpool’s best goalkeeping option, and whilst many expected the Reds to sign a new shot-stopper this summer, that’s likely no longer a priority for Jurgen Klopp.
It’s fair to say that his time in England has completely been turned around, and now that has been reflected by his nomination for the German Football Ambassador award. Though not based on his quality on the field, that certainly wouldn’t have hurt his case, whilst his conduct during his time on the bench will have undoubtedly had an impact.

He’s quickly becoming a fan favourite amongst our resident Liverpool fans, and many have responded to the news with sheer delight. In truth, many think that it’s the least that he deserves, with fans not just impressed with his quality on the pitch, but also the way that he carries himself off of it.
Take a look at what they’ve had to say below…
