The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been saying farewell to their 25-year-old French right-back, Massadio Haidara. The young Frenchman spent five and a half years at St James Park but failed to manage more than 60 games for the Magpies due to injury and being out-of-favour under Rafa Benitez. You can read Haidara’s goodbye message to the fans on the Newcastle website.

Haidara was also going to struggle to get into the starting eleven with Paul Dummett playing out of his skin over the last few seasons. The Frenchman joined the club from AS Nancy in January 2013 and despite him being on Tyneside for over five years now, the defender has left in the pursuit of first-team football. This season alone Haidara made just one appearance in the Premier League, playing only three minutes.
The lack of game time that Haidara has had will be one of the reasons he’s left the Northeast, and the likely destination for him now is back in his native France. The 25-year-old could join a number of different clubs this summer, with no transfer fee required to bring the left-back in. Haidara will be on a cheap wage and could be of great value to any club in need of a defender.
