West Ham United’s injury nightmares appear to have continued as one of their summer signings have been ruled out for the rest of the season.
According to a report by The Sun, Jack Wilshere has suffered a fresh setback to his ankle injury that has been troubling him.
It is understood that a specialist will confirm the news that the former Arsenal midfielder will be facing another lengthy layoff and will miss the remainder of the campaign.
The 27-year-old last featured for Manuel Pellegrini’s side in their match against Newcastle United at the beginning of December and has played just five matches following his move from the Emirates Stadium in the summer.
West Ham have had a number of injuries in the middle of the midfield and would have been hoping Wilshere would have been able to feature for the final stages of the Premier League campaign.
The news that Wilshere is set to face the remainder of the season on the sidelines will come as a blow to West Ham and Pellegrini, as well as the player himself.
It will have been equally frustrating for everyone involved as the midfielder had appeared to make a promising start to life at the London Stadium and would have been hoping to have got over his injury nightmares.
Where the 27-year-old goes from here remains to be seen, however, it does not appear he will be back on the football pitch anytime soon.
