This season has been one where Tottenham have been unlucky with injuries to say the least.
Throughout parts of it, probably their two best players Harry Kane and Dele Alli have both been sidelined for extended periods to put things into perspective.
Where the north London club have really been unfortunate, though, is midfield.
However, in the absence of various names, Moussa Sissoko has come in and has not disappointed. And that has not gone unnoticed.
Speaking about the 29-year-old in his Daily Mail column, Jamie Redknapp wrote: “Tottenham’s midfield powerhouse. I was not alone in thinking that Sissoko would be heading for the exit door last summer.
“Instead, injuries to Harry Winks and the sale of Mousa Dembele forced Mauricio Pochettino to move Sissoko into the middle.
“It proved a masterstroke — and only underlines just how much Pochettino improves players.”
And a powerhouse is exactly what Sissoko has been in that Spurs engine room this campaign.
The Frenchman is not the most technical of footballers, something he admitted in an interview with RMC Sport last month.
“I know that I am not the most technical player, best player in the world, but I play with the qualities that I have,” Sissoko told the French outlet (via Get French Football News).
But when it comes to driving with the ball through the middle of the park, there might not be a better midfielder in the Premier League than the France international.
He has been such a presence for Pochettino’s side and has done a great job replacing the departed Dembele.
Next season, if he can maintain this form and perhaps add a few vital goals to his game, then you will easily be looking at one of the leading midfielders in the Premier League.
