Jan Vertonghen not expected to return until November

Mauricio Pochettino will be looking for a reaction from his Tottenham Hotspur side when they return to action in the Premier League at the weekend.

Spurs were undone by Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday night and will want to get back to winning ways when they meet Cardiff City at Wembley on Saturday.

Pochettino has witnessed a mixed bag of form from his side this season already, having picked up a number of defeats in the campaign already.

However, that has not been helped with the number of injuries the side have had to deal with recently and it does not look as though things will get any easier for the team.

According to a report by HLN, Jan Vertonghen is set to face a lengthy spell on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury during their match against Huddersfield Town last weekend.

It has been claimed that although no exact date has been placed on his return, the medical team do not expect to see him back on the pitch before November.

The Verdict:

Tottenham have had some seriously bad luck when it comes to injuries this season and Vertonghen is just the latest in a long list.

The likes of Christen Eriksen and Dele Alli have also had to spend time on the sidelines and watch as their team struggle to get the results needed.

The club’s decision not to make additions in the summer is certainly coming back to haunt Pochettino’s side, although, in the case of Vertonghen, they should have the necessary options to cover his absence.
