Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking rather unimpressed at the latest news coming from the Daily Mirror.
The publication report that Reds winger Raheem Sterling will be allowed to leave in January – on loan – to get some first team football.
As one of our punters wonders out loud, quite why Brendan Rodgers cannot find a space for the player in his side remains to be seen.
Yes, Liverpool are flying at the minute, but last season Sterling was a key player, and is a fan favourite to boot.
As we were saying yesterday, the club are considering a move for Sporting Lisbon’s Diego Capel, which would of course push the English winger even further down the pecking order.
Rodgers does see a long-term future for Sterling at Anfield, but is aware that he needs regular game time in order to develop his skills.
This has of course placed a whole heap of not only Championship clubs on red alert, but also some Premier League ones as well.
Sterling has shown he has the skill to cut it at the top level, and there are a fair few clubs who could do with someone who has the talent the England Under-21 international possesses to help their battle for either survival or a better finish in the second half of the season.
Does Sterling need to go out on loan or should Rodgers play him more regularly? Let us know your thoughts below.
