Manchester City potentially lost a star of the future during the summer transfer window.
It was an uneventful summer on Eastlands with Riyad Mahrez the only significant signing made by Pep Guardiola in the transfer window. The Spaniard had targeted Jorginho before the Italian decided to join Chelsea with Maurizio Sarri at the final hour. Guardiola decided his business was done and settled on bringing the Algerian to the Etihad.
One departure that went under the radar was that of Javairo Dilrosun. The 20-year-old began his youth career at Ajax before joining Manchester City in 2014. After progressing through the club’s youth ranks, Dilrosun was tipped for a bright future but instead opted to move to Bundesliga side – Hertha Berlin.
Now valued at £900k by Transfermarkt, the Dutch youth international has made a blistering start to life in the Bundesliga and City may regret allowing him to depart. In his first seven appearances in Germany, Dilrosun has scored two goals and registered four assists. Should his impressive performances continue, the Citizens need to consider bringing him back to England.
With blistering pace and excellent dribbling ability, Dilrosun has proven to be a handful for Bundesliga defenders during his short stint in the division. Despite his route to City first-team currently being blocked by Leroy Sane, Dilrosun could be tempted to rejoin his former employers if he is promised more first-team football by Guardiola.
Youngsters such as Phil Foden and Brahim Diaz are slowly being fast-tracked into the City first-team, and Dilrosun could play a similar role under the Spaniard. If his form continues, it won’t be long before one of City’s rivals come calling for his signature. The Citizens must do everything in their power to get him back to the Etihad.
