West Ham United have started to enjoy themselves on the pitch a little more than previously in the last few weeks.
Despite the defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion prior to the international break, Manuel Pellegrini’s side managed to put together a run of impressive results against the likes of Everton, Chelsea and Manchester United to end their rut.
The Hammers spent big in the summer to help improve their squad and give the Chilean a side to match his ambitions for the club, however, he could look to dip his toes into the winter transfer market as well.
It is understood that the London Stadium outfit could look to add another striker to their ranks and according to a report, one man has sounded the club out about making a move back to the team where it all began.
The 36-year-old is currently behind Callum Wilson and Joshua King, with the pair showing no signs of ending their impressive performances any time soon.
Defoe allegedly making contact with West Ham about a return to the club does come somewhat as a surprise.
It’s no real shock that he could look to leave the Cherries, however, it would not have been expected that a move back to the Hammers would possibly be on his agenda.
The Irons have doubts over the likes of Marko Arnautovic, Andy Carroll and Javier Hernandez in terms of their fitness, whilst Lucas Perez is yet to register anything of note since his move from Arsenal.
Defoe is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League and with West Ham having struggled in the past to find a consistent goal threat, the former England international could be the man to get the club firing.
