Cole, whose contract with the Lions expires at the end of the season, is demanding parity with team mates like Michael Essien and Nicolas Anelka and feels that Chelsea should reward his loyalty to the club with a £6m a year deal.
Currently on £80k a week, Cole has rejected the Blues offer of £100k a week, a figure which they are refusing to budge from.
The club are pretty confident that 28 year old midfielder will not walk away but Cole will surely be considering his place in Ancelotti’s thoughts especially after the Italian described him as “not as good as Deco” earlier this season.
When asked about it last week, Ancelotti seem pretty nonchalant stating,
“Yes, we know he can sign for another club already and we are talking with him. It’s not my problem. I can talk only about the technical. About the contract, the economic factor is a problem for the club.”
Fergie and co will be anticipating the outcome of the saga and although Cole’s high wage demands may be off putting, the fact a player valued at £14m plus could be going for free will be will seem a deal too good to pass up.
