Joel Matip set to spend around six weeks on the sidelines

Liverpool managed to secure their place in the Champions League on Tuesday night when defeated Napoli 1-0.

However, it appears as though that win may have come at a potentially huge blow for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

According to the club’s official website, Joel Matip could be about to spend around six weeks on the sidelines as he needs to undergo surgery.

The defender landed awkwardly in the dying moments of the game and it has been revealed that he has picked up a fractured collarbone.

The Verdict:

Although it is still only indications, the injury will not have come at a great time for Liverpool or Klopp and could potentially be deemed as a huge blow.

With matches coming thick and fast over the festive period, and Joe Gomez already out on the sidelines, Matip would likely have had a key role to play for the Anfield outfit.

Depending on how well the defender responds and recovers from his treatment, Liverpool will be hoping that six weeks in the maximum amount of time he needs on the sidelines and has the possibility of making a return to the team a little earlier than expected.
