At Crystal Palace, things have gone quiet in regards to Wilfried Zaha’s future with the club.
However, nothing has materialised, though one former pro would love to see something happen if it involved his old club. Let’s take a look at his verdict in our latest instalment of the Pundit’s Choice feature.
“Maybe they [Liverpool] should look into the possibility of recruiting Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace, who is rumoured to have made it clear he wants to move on to play Champions League football,” John Aldridge wrote in his Sunday World column (via Daily Express).
“Zaha has given Liverpool some real problems in the last couple of years and [Jurgen] Klopp’s ability to turn talents of his type into consistent performers has to make him the kind of player who could thrive at Anfield.”
From Liverpool’s perspective, if Klopp is looking to strengthen his attack this summer, it makes a lot of sense.
Over the last few seasons, the Ivory Coast international has been exceptional for the Eagles, scoring 10 times and setting up another five goals last term. His skill, pace, finishing and creativity makes him a very well-rounded winger.
But at Liverpool, how much opportunities is he going to get? Probably not a lot with Sadio Mane, who might quite possibly be the best left winger in the Premier League now that Eden Hazard has moved to Real Madrid, playing in his preferred position.
You cannot fault Zaha for his ambition and wanting to make that step up but, in this moment of time, a team like Liverpool might just be a little too high.
Simply put, he would be better off aiming for an outfit such as Manchester United or Arsenal or staying put at Palace for another year, as his career could come to a halt if he spends most of his time on the substitutes’ bench at Anfield.Like what the TT have on offer?
