Sunderland are reported to be lining up a January swoop for German international Kevin Kuranyi and are expected to show Kenwyne Jones to door, The Daily Mirror understands.
Manager Steve Bruce is hoping to complete a £3.5 million deal today for the Schalke 04 man, flying him to Sunderland to sort out personal terms. The 6ft 3in striker, who has been a hit in the Bundesliga in recent years, is available at a cut-price fee as he is out of contract in the summer and the 27-year-old is reported to be looking for a move away from Germany.
He would be a major coup for the club, having recently become one of the few players to surpass the landmark of 100 league goals in German football. His move however, is likely to trigger the exit of unsettled striker Kenwyne Jones, who is being monitored by Stoke and Birmingham City. Jones is believed to be available for around £12 million and would leave Bruce with considerable profit after a move for Kuranyi.
The Sunderland boss is reported to be considering moves for Middlesbrough starlet Adam Johnson and Wigan full back Maynor Figueroa should Jones leave the Stadium of Light.
