Rafa Benitez’s future at Newcastle United has been the talk of the town for a long, long time, however, it does not appear to be a discussion that will be coming to an end any time soon.
Speculation has continued to be fuelled about what the Magpies could be facing in the summer and it appears one man that has been linked with a move to St. James’ Park should Benitez decide to call it quits would be more than happy to lead the side.
What’s the News?
According to the Newcastle Chronicle, Jorge Jesus would jump at the chance to become Newcastle’s manager, should they need to replace Benitez.
It is claimed the former Benfica and Sporting Lisbon boss, who is currently unemployed following a spell in Saudi Arabia, is desperate to try his hand in one of Europe’s biggest leagues and could see the Magpies as a tempting proposition.
Should Benitez decide to call time at St. James’ Park and leave at the end of his contract, then there may not be many better candidates than Jesus for the club to try and replace the Spaniard with.
The Portuguese manager has an excellent winning mentality and has guided a number of his sides to glory, having won 12 trophies with Sporting Lisbon and Benfica during his time there.
There is no doubt that Benitez has become a legendary figure and an immensely popular man around Tyneside, however, the doubts about his future continue to go on and whether he and owner Mike Ashley can come to an agreement remains to be seen.
Whether Jesus would be able to replicate the success the Spaniard has had, or even get on with the owner are legitimate questions, however, he could still turn out to be a rather large coup for the Magpies.
Newcastle fans, do you think Jesus would be a suitable replacement for Benitez if he decides to walk at the end of the season? Do you think Jesus would be able to deal with Ashley? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
