The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern have been sweating on the fitness of Marouane Fellaini today after the Belgian was withdrawn against Southampton with a hamstring problem…
Following the game, Jose Mourinho took to MUTV (via the official Man Utd website) to reveal that there are concerns over the fitness of Fellaini. He said: “Fellaini… says it’s not a tear”, before adding, “He says it was a minimal thing but minimal can be a big thing. Let’s wait for tomorrow”.
Whilst Mourinho isn’t committing either way, this update has certainly worried the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern. Hamstring issues can often lead to long-term injury layoffs, regardless of their severity, and with the Europa League final just a week away – this has naturally raised concern.
That being said, the player appears confident that the injury isn’t a tear – and so that can certainly be deemed as a positive update.
Though he isn’t a particularly popular figure in the Transfer Tavern, Fellaini has proven to be an important hand for Jose Mourinho this season. Though often not a starter, the Belgian has often featured under the Portuguese manager – typically towards the end of a game as Mourinho looks to get another goal or hold on to a lead. His versatility has made him a vital component for Man Utd, and so the fans in the pub are hoping that he is fit for next week.
