Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are confident they can challenge rivals Manchester City for the Premier League title next season.

United have enjoyed a strong transfer window thus far after finishing second in the table last year as well as losing the FA Cup final against Chelsea. It marked the first season that Mourinho ended the season without a trophy as manager of the Red Devils. Since, to combat this, the Portuguese has responded with splashing £75m to bring Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant to Old Trafford.

The former Chelsea boss remains keen to bolster his attack with Anthony Martial facing an uncertain future at the club. The latest batch of reports have linked United with a move for Liverpool target, Xherdan Shaqiri, who was recently relegated with Stoke. Instead, they should take advantage of Cristiano Ronaldo’s proposed £88m move to Juventus.

The Old Lady would be financially crippled if they completed a move for the Portuguese superstar and could be forced to offload some of their star players as a result including winger – Federico Bernardeschi. Valued at £36m by Transfermarkt, the 24-year-old signed for the club last summer after a stunning campaign with Fiorentina.

United were interested in signing him at the time, and the Red Devils would be wise to rekindle their interest if Ronaldo arrives in Turin. His first season with Juve was hampered by injury. He made just nine starts in all competitions but still managed to score five goals and register six assists.

Bernardeschi is tall for a winger, standing at six foot meaning he will have no problems adapting to the physicality of the Premier League. He favours cutting in from the right on to his favoured left foot but also loves to track back and help his team win back possession. Such traits will be attractive to Mourinho who loves a hard-working forward.
