The Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are disappointed with this one…
Whilst the Chelsea faithful in the Tavern have been pleased with the start their side has made to the Premier League season so far, few would argue that Chelsea are the finished article.
The Blues are a long way from cementing their place at the top of the Premier League, and our landlord thinks that Antonio Conte will no doubt already be looking towards his January spending.
That does appear to be the case, with reports emerging over the last few weeks that Antonio Conte is keen on out-of-favour Man Utd defender Matteo Darmian.
This is definitely a move that appeals to the Chelsea faithful in the Football Transfer Tavern, whom have criticised the performances of Branislav Ivanovic over the past year or so.
However – the move has reportedly been blocked by ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, leaving a sour taste in the mouths of the Chelsea fans in attendance this evening.
Our landlord has quickly suggested that the United boss will likely prefer to sell abroad than improve a domestic rival – but the salty Chelsea fans in-house tonight are arguing that the ex-Chelsea boss is simply doing it to spite his former side.
With the move seemingly at an impasse, a few of the punters in the Football Transfer Tavern have been where wondering where exactly Darmian would fit in the Chelsea first team.
One Chelsea fan has suggested that his arrival would allow Branislav Ivanovic to take a back seat, which would no doubt reinforce the quality in the Chelsea back line.
Conversely, another fan has suggested that if he isn’t good enough for United he won’t be good enough for Chelsea – so he thinks the Blues should pass.
Whilst this season has been uneventful for Darmian, the punters in the Tavern have been largely impressed with his performances in recent years – as this compilation video highlights…
We still aren’t sure why Mourinho has unceremoniously dumped him!
