Man Utd’s resurgence under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been remarkable. They’ve gone from a side with little chance of qualifying for the top four this term to a team that looks destined to finish the season strongly in pursuit of that very aim – and they’re only getting better.
Indeed, it’s been a practically faultless start to the interim manager’s time back at his old club, and few would have anticipated the sort of impact that he’s been able to have.
One man that’s been a particular beneficiary to the arrival of Solskjaer is Anthony Martial. His time at Man Utd almost looked over at points during Jose Mourinho’s tenure, but he’s exploded into life since his new manager came in.
He’s been rewarded for that this week, too, with Man Utd confirming that the Frenchman has signed a new deal at Old Trafford. Martial is now tied down until at least 2024, and that’s huge news for Man Utd.
– “Jose wanted to get rid of this guy!”
Phil Thompson believes that Anthony Martial’s contract renewal at @ManUtd could be the “signing of the window” after the forward penned a new deal until 2024.

He said: “Jose wanted to get rid of this guy, he wanted him out of the door. The lad was thinking about leaving”
He added: “This could be one of the signings of the transfer window…My goodness, it’s a turnaround in fortunes”.
Certainly, there have been a few beneficiaries of Jose Mourinho’s departure, but Anthony Martial is up there with the best of them. He was down and out under Mourinho, with the Portuguese never really rating his talent. He’s become a regular under the new manager though, and he’s done well.
He popped up with an important goal against Arsenal, and not for the first time, he’s come off the bench and helped push a tie in the favour of the Red Devils. At 23-years-old, he’s at an age in which he needs to start showing ability, rather than potential – and in recent weeks, he’s done just that.
This is also an important deal for Man Utd from a financial perspective. Even if he returns to the form that he had during Mourinho’s run, his long contract means that Man Utd can still charge a premium, and so for the Red Devils, offering him fresh terms comes with little risk.
Thompson is clearly impressed, and it’s hard not to be.
