Joselu’s Kenedy gesture has pleased a lot of Newcastle fans

Newcastle got their first point of the season on Saturday when they held Cardiff to a 0-0 draw at the Cardiff City Stadium and the supporters aren’t sure if it’s two points dropped or one point gained. After Kenedy missed his 96-minute penalty the fans were quick to notice that Joselu was the first man over to him, consoling him after he missed the crucial spot-kick.

Joselu has come in for a lot of criticism from some Newcastle supporters but that has been really harsh criticism as far as most of the fans are concerned. The Spanish striker may not be the most prolific but he’s one of those who’s not just in the team to score goals, he’s key in getting those around him involved in attacking positions and what he doesn’t add in goals he makes up for in the morale he brings to the squad.

His years at Newcastle aren’t the only time Rafa Benitez has engineered a successful side without an out and out goalscorer. Back in the 2001/02 season, Benitez’s Valencia won La Liga despite their top goalscorer, Ruben Baraja netting just seven goals. The Spanish gaffer will be happy with Joselu’s output and if he can have six or seven players in his squad doing what Joselu does then the club would be in a much better position to kick on.

The fans will be desperate to see Joselu gain some much-needed form and add to his goal against Spurs in the coming weeks.
