Journalist: Chelsea have ‘serious’ interest in £31.5m-rated Conte favourite

It’s been a decent first-half of the season for the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, but they’re hopeful that the rest of the campaign will be even better. They’re on a decent run of form at present, with Antonio Conte’s men finally finding their rhythm after an inconsistent start.

A few new additions would certainly make things easier for Antonio Conte, though, with a major January acquisition deemed to be a dream by our resident Blues. Fortunately for them, they could get their wish if Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri is to be believed.

Palmeri has taken to Twitter to seemingly reveal that Chelsea are interested in Bayern Munich star Arturo Vidal, stating: “Chelsea and Vidal are being serious”.

Though written in a cryptic way, Palmeri appears to be suggesting what most fans have been dreaming of: there is, at the very least, a chance that a move by Chelsea for Vidal could happen – with the Blues seemingly keen.

Vidal currently plays for Bayern Munich, where he is a regular, and so at first glance a move would seem unlikely – but stranger things have happened.

Significantly, of course, Vidal and Chelsea manager Antonio Conte are well aware of one another, having worked together at Juventus. Under the Italian, Vidal turned into one of Europe’s best midfielders – and so the relationship between the two is evident. Conte has even claimed, according to the Independent, that he would ‘go to war’ with Vidal.

Whether that helps a potential deal remains to be seen, but Chelsea appear willing to try at least.

Landlord’s Verdict

Rated at £31.5 million by Transfer Markt, Vidal’s signing in January would be a very costly one, yet given the Conte links, it wouldn’t be completely out of the ordinary.

That being said, it does seem unlikely, with the midfielder still key to Bayern Munich’s plans.

He’d certainly improve the Chelsea midfield, though, with the prospect of him teaming up with N’Golo Kante and Cesc Fabregas enough to leave our resident Blues drooling into their pint glasses.
