Journalist: Chelsea’s squad is good enough to achieve big things this season

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager to see what their new-look side can do…

It’s been a decent start to the season for the Blues, but with the best yet to come from Alvaro Morata and Tiemoe Bakayoko, and with Danny Drinkwater and Davide Zappacosta yet to make an appearance, the Blues first team could look very different in a few weeks.

For the fans in the Transfer Tavern, Chelsea’s summer was a mixed period, with a number of big incomings unfortunately contrasted with a few disappointing outgoings.

Still, the Blues’ team is made up of some of Europe’s best players, and if Chelsea journalist Dan Levene is anything to go by, that should stand the Blues in good stead ahead of the rest of the campaign.

Discussing the Blues in an article for Eurosport, Levene said: “This is a squad which can compete on four fronts, and one which should finish in the top four at least, reach the Champions League quarter finals, and challenge for domestic silverware”.

It’s certainly a bold claim from Levene, given how much teams like Man Utd and Man City have invested this summer, but it is one that holds a lot of weight.

On first glance, at least, Chelsea’s squad today is stronger than it was 12 months ago – and we all know how last season ended. Now it’s just up to the players to impress.

Landlords Verdict

Chelsea’s squad is full of quality, but their problem could come in the form of depth.

They’re competing on so many fronts this season, and that could be their undoing. Still, if they can keep the squad fit, that shouldn’t be a problem.
