Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern will have been getting excited about the return of the Premier League this weekend when they learned that one of their players could feature for the very first time, however, there has been news since that could put a downer on those joys.
Islam Slimani has been out with a thigh injury since joining the Magpies on loan from Leicester City on transfer Deadline Day in January, but he made his long-awaited return to action during the international break.
The striker came on as a second-half substitute for Algeria in their 2-1 defeat to Iran on Tuesday night, giving Rafa Benitez some hope that he would be fit to face Huddersfield Town at the weekend. Our locals would have been hoping the attacker would play a crucial role in the game and they would finally get to see him action, however, his match time could be limited, according to Mark Douglas.
The journalist, who is the Newcastle United editor for the Chronicle, stated on his personal Twitter account that there is ‘no way he starts’ the match against the Terriers.
Hedging bets, I'd say you might see Islam Slimani from the bench against Huddersfield.
No way he starts. Wouldn't be Rafa's style anyway given how pleased he's been with Gayle's contribution over recent weeks.

He also states that he’d be surprised if Slimani did start if fully fit, considering Benitez has been happy with the contribution from Dwight Gayle over the last few weeks.
Newcastle fans will be pleased with the fact that the Foxes loanee can be named in the matchday squad, rather than him starting just yet. Slimani has been at the club for almost two months now without ever being able to play for the Magpies and supporters will just be keen to see him get some action for his new side.
Newcastle fans, what do you think about Slimani’s chances starting against Huddersfield at the weekend? Let us know below!
