The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are loving life under Pep Guardiola at the moment. After a tough season last year, they’ve really turned it around this term, with a Premier League title challenge undoubtedly forthcoming. Pep Guardiola has really worked his magic, and with things going so well, talk has inevitably turned to the future of the manager.
He still has 18 months or so left on his current deal, but the Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for him to stay at the club for a few years yet – and so they’ve been clamouring for an update on his long-term future. Fortunately, football expert Guillem Ballague has provided an update on the long-term status of the Spaniard.
As part of a column for Yahoo Sports, Ballague wrote: “Although nothing by way of an extension has yet been discussed at this moment it is almost inconceivable that he will not be extending his stay”.
He added: “All the important decision makers at the club know precisely his modus operandi and basically the plan is to sit down at the end of the season, take stock and add a further year to his contract”.
Ballague doesn’t seem concerned about the long-term future of Guardiola, and there’s a good reason for that. He has never been a manager to tie himself down long-term, and so the Man City fans need not be worried. It’s no real surprise, mind, that fans want him to stay – as he has been simply sensational so far during his tenure.
It seems unlikely that Guardiola would leave this job half finished, particularly as things are going so well.
He only ever signs short-term contracts, and so Man City shouldn’t worry too much.
The Citizens have looked very good in the Premier League this season, and their performances will no doubt influence his decision. If he wins the league, it seems likely that an extension will follow.
