Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern know that there are several priorities that need to be addressed this summer, one being bringing in a new centre-back- a problem that has blighted the side all season!
The Reds have been superb going forward at times this season, with Phillipe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane forming an at times devestating forward three. But defensively, they really haven’t been at the races at times and there’s one man our Liverpool-mad landlord has a gripe with the most.
It’s Dejan Lovren, who’s performances in recent weeks really haven’t been up to scratch in the slightest. And going forward, it seems that bringing a new centre-back should be a priority for Klopp this summer and it’s something he’s been discussing before the Reds’ game against Watford this evening.
Speaking before the game to the irish Independent, Klopp spoke of the importance of bringing in a centre-back who plays the offensive Liverpool way.
“A centre-half for a top team is playing with a lot of space at the back,” said Klopp. “You cannot be offensive with two players in a counter-attack.”
“If we go for a centre-half we need to know how he acts in big spaces,” he added.
Reds fans- just how much do you need a centre-back replacement this summer and who should be the man brought in? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
