Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are optimistic Philippe Coutinho will remain a Liverpool player after Jurgen Klopp said he is not for sale following reports of a £72 million offer from Barcelona.
The Brazilian international only signed a five-year deal at the club in January but has continued to attract the attention of Europe’s biggest clubs yet again following on from yet another decent season in the Premier League.
With PSG preparing a world-record transfer for Barcelona forward Neymar, the Spanish club have been looking at potential replacements and see Coutinho as the ideal candidate with ESPN reporting the Anfield club have received a £72 million approach.
However, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp stated in a news conference, as reported by ESPN, that he is 100% not for sale.
“I’m not surprised that any club is interested in players at Liverpool,” he said. “The very important message is that we are not a selling club and that’s how it is.
“We believe in working together and developing together. We want to make the next step together and for this we need to stay together. Phil is a very important player for us.”
Whether or not Klopp decides to change his mind over the rest of the summer remains to be seen.
If an improved offer does come in for Coutinho, it could be difficult for the German to turn down but for now he remains a Liverpool player.
