The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are anxiously awaiting the new season…
It has been a mixed summer for the Reds, with Mohamed Salah their only big name capture so far, and given that Liverpool return to the Champions League next season, there are fears that the players may burn out under the rigorous schedule.
It is this very topic that has ignited the start of a somewhat bitter war of words between Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho, with the Liverpool Echo noting that the latter recently suggested that Liverpool may struggle next season given their European return.
Now, however, according to the Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp has responded to the comments and has delivered quite the assessment.
He said: “Okay, we had a season like Man United the year before…Sorry that we lost the final… We played Sevilla, they played Ajax. That’s the difference”.
Klopp is, of course, referring to Liverpool’s failure to win the Europa League and Man Utd’s subsequent success in doing so – which appears to have become a sticking point for either side. Still, the German doesn’t want to engage in such discussions, instead choosing to focus on improving his side ahead of the new season.
Unfortunately for him, though, those preparations aren’t going too well so far – and Liverpool still need to land a number of players if they realistically want to compete.
The German couldn’t resist one dig at Man Utd, though, and our landlord is keen to see how Jose Mourinho will respond.
