‘Just brilliant’ – Southampton fans on Twitter delighted with club’s message after awful season

The Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern had a pretty good day yesterday. The Saints travelled to the Liberty Stadium as they went head-to-head with Swansea in a huge relegation clash. Mark Hughes’ side were up against it from the off, with their hotel booking being cancelled due to what Hughes described as “overzealous Swansea fans who felt they could affect the game.”

Southampton came out on top, winning 1-0 via a second-half Manolo Gabbiadini goal. The decisive strike after a goal-mouth scramble following a Southampton corner looks to have all but relegated Carlos Carvalhal’s Swansea. Southampton made a sarcastic jibe at the expense of the Swansea Marriott Hotel after the game as they left a 1 star Trip Advisor review on the hotel, citing that they’d been in the area on a business trip, which turned out very successful.

Southampton have one game left against the Champions Manchester City, although they look to be safe considering they sit three points clear of Swansea and will need to lose their next game with a swing of ten goals in Swansea’s favour for the Swans to stay up at the expense of Hughes’ Southampton. The club have suffered their worst season this year since their return to the Premier League, although they look safe to fight another day, leaving the Swans hanging by a thread.
