The AVB revolution is in full swing as the Tottenham manager is crafting a team he feels confident could challenge for a top four finish. With the likes of Adebayor, Vertonghen and Sigurdsson joining the London club, as well as French international Hugo Lloris and Fulham midfielder Moussa Dembele set to join Spurs, the reports of Barcelona’s outcast Ibrahim Afellay and Russian international Alan Dzagoev could question where they would fit in Villas-Boas’ squad.
Ibrahim Afellay has been listed for loan by Barcelona, with Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham all being interested in the 26 year old. But, even though the La Liga side was said to have accepted the deals from Tottenham and Liverpool, German side Schalke is said to be the preferred choice for the Dutch international who would join the side on a season long loan. However, according to the Daily Mail, if he is to join Tottenham then there would be a view of making the deal permanent.
Last season, Afellay was sidelined in September 2011 for 8 months until April, and as a result has dropped his match fitness. Also with the winger being down the pecking order in Tito Vilanova’s preferred team, a loan move would be in his best interests. For AVB, this deal could be very successful. With the future of Aaron Lennon being unclear due to reports suggesting he is allowed to leave, Afellay could prove a vital player in AVB’s formation. Even if Lennon is to stay with Spurs, which is very likely, then it would be a motivating move for the Englishman as he would have his position in the squad challenged for the first time.
Alan Dzagoev has also been a long term target of Tottenham, with an offer of £15 million being contemplated after the Euros. His father confirmed the interest in July: ”I don’t know if he will stay at CSKA. There are offers — from Spurs and other foreign clubs.”
The Russian is still young at the age of 22, but has made an impression at CSKA Moscow which has led to the star being valued at £25 million by his club according to the Daily Mail. This price tag has obviously led to the deal being halted, as well as other targets being seen as better options, such as Fulham’s Moussa Dembele. Also, with Yann M’Vila from Rennes and Joao Moutinho from Porto being priortised by AVB, it would be a surprise to see the Russian at White Hart Lane any time soon.
