The Leeds fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to comments from Pablo Hernandez after he signed a two-year contract extension at Elland Road, keeping him there until 2020. The Spaniard claimed (via Phil Hay on Twitter) that he had opportunities in Spain but that he wanted to achieve something special with the Yorkshire club.
Hernandez: "I had opportunities in Spain but this is a special club and I want to achieve something here. In the next two years I think we can." #lufc

This season could have been so different for Leeds United. They’ve been given a positive with the news that Hernandez will be staying put at the club until 2020, although on the pitch they’ve failed to live up to expectations. The fans came into the season with hopes that it would be their last in the Championship as they target a return to England’s top-flight, but now they face a ninth straight year in the second tier for the 2018/19 season.
Pablo Hernandez has been one of the club’s most consistent performers this season and has bagged seven goals and nine assists in his 40 Championship games this year. The 33-year-old is one of the few players who’s carried his form across from the first-half of the season into the second-half, as Leeds United’s campaign has truly been a tale of two halves. Ultimately though, the 2017/18 campaign will go down as a failure and Paul Heckingbottom will be hoping they can kick-on next year.
You can see what our resident Whites have been saying in response to Hernandez’s comments:
Next 2 years? He means next year promotion, year after champions of England
