The Metro have made a claim that has Manchester United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern looking up eagerly as they note that Manchester United could well have a back up plan should Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas reject them.
David Moyes has made multiple approaches for the midfielder and now it seems that a final bid is being prepared. The new Manchester United manager is aware however that he could easily miss out on landing his top target – just as he did when Thiago Alcantara snubbed the club in favour of a move to the Bundesliga. Now it seems Moyes has a plan to get a midfielder on what it seems is a third time lucky basis and has eyed a move for Juventus midfield star Claudio Marchisio.
When questioned about the chances of a move, the player was coy and noted that
‘For the past seven years, my name has always come up when the transfer market was discussed.
‘Obviously, I will not deny that I feel flattered when I see my name being linked with other clubs, including some of the most important and biggest in the world.
‘However, I have not talked to anyone and there are no concrete offers.
‘My desire is to stay here and win more trophies. Then again, you never know what will happen in football. I would not be the first player to leave his boyhood club.’
