We do enjoy a good transfer battle in the Football Transfer Tavern and news from talkSPORT that Manchester United and Chelsea face competition from Juventus in their pursuit of Porto playmaker James Rodriguez is really whetting the appetite.
The 21-year-old has long been linked with a Premier League move with both Chelsea and United scouts regularly watching the midfielder as he impresses in Portugal but now it seems that Juventus also want Rodriguez.
The Colombian international joined Porto for £4 million from Argentine side Clue Atletico Banfield in 2010 and since then has gone on to become widely regarded as one of the brightest prospects in European football.
Porto have grown accustomed to selling their prized assets over the years, most recently Radamel Falcao in 2011 who is currently making waves at Atletico Madrid.
Rodriguez could act as a straight replacement for Nani at Old Trafford while Chelsea are still searching for a player that can regularly supply the goods to misfiring striker Fernando Torres.
His £38 million release clause makes him a somewhat a realistic target for both clubs in the January transfer window but it now appears that the Italian champions are ready to take the first steps to securing the talented midfielder.
