In the most talked about deal of the deadline day Robbie Keane has been confirmed as a Celtic player. The striker joins the Parkhead club on loan until the end of the season and The Sun reports that Keane was paraded in front of 3,000 fans last night. It is hoped that his arrival will help to reignite the Bhoys stuttering season.
Keane, who is a lifelong Celtic fan jumped at the opportunity of first team football on offer from Tony Mowbray. Keane is quoted on the BBC;
I am a Celtic fan and did not have to ask much about it. I always wanted to play for Celtic and it works for all parties.
There have been limited first team opportunities of late at White Hart Lane. The form of Jermaine Defoe and Peter Crouch has been impressive and with Roman Pavlyuchenko and new signing Eidur Gudjohnsen, Tottenham had 5 prominent strikers. Pavlyuchenko had been tipped to leave the club, but instead the Keane deal was put in place on Monday evening.
The deal was accepted by Harry Redknapp, who felt that the player deserved to be playing regularly and wished Keane all the best for his stay in Glasgow, quoted in The Sun as saying;
This opportunity is something he wants to take. And we don’t want to stand in his way
Redknapp will be hoping to have a rejuvenated Keane return to his squad in the summer.
In the meantime Celtic fans have been boosted by the big name signing of Keane, helping to soften the blow of popular Australian Scott McDonald being sold to Middlesbrough earlier in the day.
Keane has scored 6 league goals in 20 appearances for Tottenham this season.
