Kehrer moving to PSG is just not good for Liverpool

Kehrer moving to PSG is just not good for Liverpool

Liverpool cruised to the top of the Premier League table with a resounding 4-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday.

The Reds had been pencilled in as early favourites to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title following an excellent summer transfer window. Jurgen Klopp’s men barely got out of third gear to down the Hammers with goals from Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane (2), and Daniel Sturridge sending them to the top of the table. The German will be pleased to see new signing Naby Keita look great on his Premier League debut.

At the other end of the field, Joe Gomez impressed at the heart of the defence alongside Virgil van Dijk. The youngster was finally given a chance to impress in the centre after Dejan Lovren returned from the World Cup injured. With Joel Matip also sidelined, Ragnar Klavan is the only other senior centre-back available to Klopp.

With options limited, the ex-Borussia Dortmund boss should be searching for another centre-back in the January transfer window. The perfect signing could be Schalke wonderkid – Thilo Kehrer. Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, the German was extremely impressive during his breakthrough season in the Bundesliga.

His excellent showings have attracted interest from Paris St Germain, and the French champions have reportedly agreed a £33m deal for the defender. However, PSG boss Thomas Tuchel confirmed he was unaware of Kehrer’s arrival stating he was unsure whether the move was ‘definite’. Liverpool should take advantage and hijack the deal.

Kehrer is the perfect partner for van Dijk in the Liverpool defence. He averaged 2.9 tackles per game in the Bundesliga last season – more than any other defender in the Premier League last season (WhoScored). The 21-year-old can play right back or left back meaning he would be a useful option for Klopp to have at his disposal.

If PSG fail to get this one over the line, Liverpool must swoop in.
