The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern loved the impact that Kenedy made at St James’ Park last season. The attacker-turned-defender made a big impression at the club, and our resident Geordies are desperate for him to return.
However, our landlord thinks that they should be much more tempted by the prospect of Ruben Loftus-Cheek moving to the club, with the Shields Gazette reporting that Rafael Benitez is interested in the Englishman. Indeed, our landlord thinks that his arrival would make Kenedy a distant memory in the minds of Newcastle fans.
After all, Loftus-Cheek has proven over the last year that he’s a far superior player compared to his Chelsea teammate. Granted, they play in different positions, but Loftus-Cheek became the focal point of the Crystal Palace midfield. He dominated games and took them by the scruff of the neck, and that sort of presence is something at Newcastle have lacked over the last year or two.
He’s able to pass around players and dribble through them, and that technical ability would provide Rafael Benitez with an entirely different facet in which he can build his team around. He picked up 2 goals and 4 assists last season, and he’ll be hoping to make that record even better next term.
Furthermore, he’s also with England at present at the World Cup, and that’s a testament to how well he has done over the last year. The midfielder is clearly on a very quick and steep upwards trajectory, and Newcastle would be wise to invest now, before it’s too late.
