Key Chelsea player could seek exit next summer, he wants La Liga switch

There’s a real sense of pessimism amongst the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern at present…

It has been a relatively poor summer for the Blues, having failed to recruit effectively as of yet, and so most supporters aren’t expecting much of a Premier League title challenge.

Unfortunately for the Blues, though, unless things improve – they could get even worse next summer. According to Don Balon, Thibaut Courtois has made it known that he is keen on a switch to Real Madrid next summer, though a number of factors will determine his interest. He is said to be desperate to return to La Liga, but whether he pushes for a move rests upon how successful his current side are over the course of the coming season.

As expected, Chelsea are said to be uninterested in selling Courtois this summer, with the Belgian quickly developing into one of Europe’s most consistent goalkeepers.

Still, Courtois’ interest is a concern for the Blues, as the behemoth that is Real Madrid is often hard to turn down, particularly when they offer big money as they so often have in the past.

Crucially, Chelsea hold all the power in this move at present, though a lack of progress over contract talks with Courtois is concerning the fans in the Transfer Tavern.

Landlord’s Verdict

Thibaut Courtois is one of Europe’s best, and Chelsea would find it very hard to replace him.

There is a real shortage of top goalkeepers in Europe at present, and so it would take a seismic fee to take him from Stamford Bridge, though Real Madrid could be keen to offer that sort of money.

Chelsea should move to tie a new deal up with Courtois as soon as possible, as his departure will certainly be very tough to recover from should it happen.
