Fans in the bar at the Football Transfer Tavern have been thoroughly entertained by the news regarding a bid for Liverpool striker Christian Benteke, which contained some rather far fetched clauses.
Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for Liverpool outcast, Christian Benteke, all summer as the Belgian looks to get his career up and running once again.
And reports that the Eagles had returned to the Reds with a new offer on Tuesday was met with hope and expectation by the boys from South London in the bar here at the Tavern.
However, according to reports from the Telegraph, the deal, which on the face matched the £30m asking price, was nowhere near what the Merseyside club were looking for.
The offer included an initial £23.5m payment, with £7m in add-ons, which sounds fair enough, until you find out what those add-ons consist of.
One clause stipulated that Jurgen Klopp and the board at Anfield would receive £2.5m when Alan Pardew’s side qualify for the Champions League with Benteke scoring 20 goals and playing in 70% of the games across their fantasised season.
Eagles fans, we want to hear from you! The Palace contingent here in the bar are saying it shows ambition, but would you rather they just stumped up the cash for Benteke? Let us know in the comments below…
