Newcastle are on the hunt to add a few players before the window closes in order to give Rafa Benitez a strong enough squad to survive in the league.

The next few days in the window are going to be crucial in deciding the fate of the club next season. After a surprisingly good season last year where the Magpies finished 10th, Mike Ashley needs to provide Benitez with some reinforcements before the deadline.

One area Newcastle need to strengthen desperately is at left-back where at the moment Benitez has Paul Dummett as his likely starter for the opening game of the season.

As a backup, Benitez does have Achraf Lazaar but the club should consider signing West Brom left-back Kieran Gibbs.

According to Italian football expert, Gianluca Di Marzio, Torino are interested in signing the former Arsenal man but if Mike Ashley is smart, he should consider snapping up Gibbs.

The Breakdown

After a fairly underrated career at Arsenal, Gibbs joined West Brom last summer and although the club was relegated last season, Gibbs actually had a good season.

At 28, the defender still has a few years left in his prime and could be a great alternative if Newcastle fail to sign Joe Bryan or Nicolas Tagliafico.

With West Brom down in the Championship, offering Gibbs the chance to come back to the Premier League would surely be enough to tempt him away. Furthermore, the defender's experience in the top division could be crucial to Benitez.
