Tottenham made history by becoming the first team since the transfer window was created in 2003 not to make a signing.

While their rivals strengthened significantly, Mauricio Pochettino did not feel the need to add to his squad this summer. Instead, Tottenham handed out new contracts to the likes of Harry Kane and Davinson Sanchez to secure their long-term future at the club. Despite their lack of new arrivals, Spurs made an impressive start to the season.

Tottenham kicked off the campaign with a win over Newcastle before downing Fulham at Wembley. Kane picked up his first goal ever in August with Lucas Moura and Kieran Trippier also getting on the scoresheet. To continue their excellent form, Pochettino would be wise to add to his squad when the window reopens in January.

One man he should target is Celtic full-back – Kieran Tierney. Valued at £11.25m by Transfermarkt, the 21-year-old is one of Scotland’s hottest prospects after breaking into the first-team at Celtic Park. Tierney was an important player for Brendan Rodgers last season, making 28 appearances in the SPFL, scoring three and assisting six.

Tierney is extremely loyal to the Hoops, but he may be forced to leave after Celtic were knocked out of the Champions League. Rodgers’ side missed out on a huge prize money pot by failing to reach the group stages, and a big-money offer for Tierney will be hard to turn down. Now is the perfect chance for Tottenham to land their man.

The youngster is primarily a left-back but is also comfortable at centre-back or on the right of defence. He would provide excellent competition for Ben Davies on the left side with Danny Rose currently out of favour after a difficult two years with the club.

Tierney has the potential to be one of the best defenders in the Premier League and Tottenham should make his signature a priority this summer.
