Liverpool are believed to have made contact with Marseille, with a view to making a formal offer for Nigerian left-back, Taye Taiwo.
Kenny Dalglish is keen to strengthen this particular area of his squad, with concerns over the long-term fitness of Fabio Aurelio, and Paul Konchesky rumoured to be on his way out of the club following a torrid time at Anfield since his arrival from Fulham.
Taiwo was, in fact, linked with a move to Liverpool under Rafa Benitez, and having seemingly lost out to Real Madrid in the race for Fabio Coentrao, the club have now rekindled their old interest in the Marseille defender.
The 25-year-old has been a consistent performer for the French side for a number of years, and his powerful shooting makes him a danger from any set-piece. Liverpool are rumoured to be lining up a bid of £4m for Taiwo, which is significantly lower than Marseille’s valuation of their left-back; however, with Taiwo’s contract set to expire in June, the Ligue 1 side may well be tempted by Liverpool’s offer this month, to avoid losing their star for nothing come the end of the season.
