The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for Jurgen Klopp to bring in a few more players this month. The Reds have enjoyed a decent season so far, but with Klopp targeting a top-four finish again this term, improvement is needed to give them the best possible chance of success.
Whilst that could certainly still happen, with over a week to go until the window closes, it appears as though the Reds are already casting one eye towards the summer instead.
According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are targeting a summer move for Monaco attacker Thomas Lemar, with Jurgen Klopp clearly still keen to land the Frenchman. Apparently rated at £90 million, the Reds would need to fork over a significant chunk of change to land him, particularly given that other sides including Arsenal, are said to be keen on his signature.
Lemar has proven to be one of Europe’s most in-demand players over the last year or so, and that’s with good reason. He was a key part of a core group of Monaco players – including Tiemoue Bakayoko and Kylian Mbappe – that led the French side to glory in Ligue 1, and whilst many of his teammates moved on, he chose to remain in France for the time being.
Now, though, he is said to be hoping for a move away, and given the interest, it appears as though a summer departure is likely.
Liverpool clearly want to be in the hunt, but it’s not going to be easy for the Reds. Still, the mere thought of Liverpool courting one of Europe’s brightest young talents is exciting our resident Reds.
You can’t doubt Lemar’s quality. He’s already one of Europe’s best at just 22-years-old, offering pace, technique and quality in-front of goal.
For Liverpool, a move for him makes particular sense – given the recent sale of Coutinho. The Reds clearly have some money in the bank as a result of that departure, and reinvestment in a player like Lemar would make sense.
