Klopp confident that 26-year-old can be his saviour at Liverpool – report

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a win against Southampton this weekend. The Reds have had a mixed campaign so far, with Klopp’s men unable to put together a successive run of wins, but there is no better time to turn things around than the present. The focus of the fans will be solely on getting the three points, but it appears as though Jurgen Klopp will have at least half an eye on one of the Saints’ first-teamers this weekend – at least according to the Mirror.

The Mirror are reporting that Jurgen Klopp remains keen on Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk. Significantly, the defender is reportedly seen by Klopp as the man that can end his defensive woes, with another move looking likely to be made by the German in the future.

The two parties, of course, had a highly publicized saga over the summer in which Liverpool attempted to land the defender to no avail, but their lack of success then doesn’t appear to have put Klopp off long-term.

To the contrary, the Reds seem as keen as ever to make this deal happen, and in truth, it’s pretty easy to see why. The Dutch defender has seamlessly returned to the fold this term and proven his worth once more, with consistent performances from the defender being one of the few positives to come out of the season so far for the Saints.

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern would love to see him at Anfield.

Landlord’s Verdict

Liverpool’s defensive woes are clear for all to see, and a new central defender is a must-buy in January.

Van Dijk ticks all the boxes in that regard. He’s proven in the Premier League, and so Klopp will have little doubt that he can have an immediate impact, whilst his quality in the tackle, on the ball and his leadership on the field will also play their part.
