Liverpool’s fixture today against Southampton at Anfield is easily the club’s easiest in September.
The Reds have already negotiated their way past Tottenham and PSG, but still have a double header against Chelsea, Napoli and Man City on the horizon after The Saints.
Manager Jürgen Klopp must take his chance therefore to rotate players, keeping his side fresh in what could be the month that defines the club’s season.
With that in mind, these TWO men should be given a start today…
England international Nathaniel Clyne has truly had a fall from grace at Anfield. The 27-year-old has not featured at all for The Reds so far this season, as he has certainly lost the battle with Trent Alexander-Arnold for the right back berth.
However, the 19-year-old wonder kid will need a break, and today may be the perfect opportunity, allowing him to be fresh for the devilish fixtures to come.
Former Champions League winner Xherdan Shaqiri’s career at Anfield hasn’t taken off quite yet. He has barely featured for The Reds so far this season, and hasn’t been given a start. But today should be his day.
There is no way that Shaqiri will usurp Mo Salah at Anfield at the moment, but Klopp will want his star man in peak condition for the whole season. The Egyptian hasn’t looked quite up to scratch so far this term, and dropping him to the bench may instil some confidence into Shaqiri while allowing Salah to come back firing.
