Liverpool supporters have been pretty upbeat in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side edge past Merseyside rivals Everton 2-1 at Anfield on Friday to book their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the Toffees off the back of a 13-match unbeaten run in the Premier League, a run which saw them usurp Tottenham and Arsenal to move into fourth place in the table. And the Reds could be set for a cup run as well as goals from James Milner and Virgil van Dijk either side of a Gylfi Sigurdsson equaliser was enough to seal a 2-1 success for Klopp’s side, who in turn moved a step closer to their first FA Cup title since 2006.
Subsequently, there have been many buoyant Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are likely to be intrigued by a recent comments from Transfer Window podcaster Ian McGarry (via The Daily Star), which suggests that striker Danny Ings is ‘available on loan’ this month.
The 25-year-old made the move to Anfield back in 2015 after impressing at fellow Premier League outfit Burnley, yet injuries have plagued his progress in the North West with the forward managing just 14 senior appearances for the Reds, in which time he has bagged three goals.
And with first team opportunities expected to be hard to come by in 2018, the one-time England international has been linked with a move away this month, a move McGarry says has been sanctioned by Liverpool chief Klopp.
He said: ‘Danny Ings is available on loan.’
And these comments are likely to intrigue our resident Reds fans, many of whom feel that it is indeed in the best interests of Ings to let him go on loan for the rest of the season.
Landlord’s verdict: Danny Ings has endured a testing spell at Liverpool since moving there from Burnley back in 2015, with just 14 appearances to show for his efforts in the last few years.
Yet a return to full fitness has been evident in recent times with several Premier League 2 appearances as well as a handful of senior ones, but gametime at Anfield is going to be tricky for the 25-year-old post-January such are Jurgen Klopp’s options in the attacking third.
As such, Ings is reportedly ‘available’ for loan this month in a bid for the regular football he needs, and with several sides nearer the bottom of the division crying out for a striker of his quality, he’ll likely get that loan move before the January 31 deadline.
