The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for Jurgen Klopp to bring in a few new faces in January. The Reds’ attack has been stellar this season, but much of the damage has been done by the likes of Mo Salah and Philippe Coutinho, with Liverpool’s strikers failing to impress as much.
Roberto Firmino has been decent, but he has lacked the cutting edge of a few of his attacking rivals, with the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Romelu Lukaku proving far more deadly this term.
January, then, could be key for the Reds, but our landlord thinks that one of Liverpool’s previously crucial players deserves one more chance against Arsenal on Friday. Daniel Sturridge has had a really tough spell under Jurgen Klopp, but his fine form under Brendan Rodgers proved that he’s good enough to lead the line. He’s lacked confidence and composure this term, of course, but nothing will bring that back quite like earning a starting berth in a big game against Arsenal.
In truth, the Englishman is running out of time. He hasn’t done much this season when selected, and with the World Cup on the horizon next summer, he needs to start impressing if he wants to be on the plane to Russia.
A few goals against Arsenal could be just what he needs to prove to Jurgen Klopp that he has the minerals to succeed. If he fails once again, it could mean the end for him, but Klopp should give him one more chance – agreed?
