Klopp should pull off this £90m transfer coup to prove that Liverpool still mean business – agreed?

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are concerned about the future of their side. Philippe Coutinho swapped Merseyside for Spain earlier this month, leaving a major gap in the Liverpool attack. Fortunately, according to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are planning on bringing in some attacking quality to replace him – with Monaco attacker Thomas Lemar touted with a potential summer move.

It’s a move that would certainly excite our resident Liverpool fans, and it’s fair to say that it’s a move that could help to define Jurgen Klopp’s tenure at the club.

On the surface, of course, a move makes sense in terms of improving the Liverpool first team. Philippe Coutinho provided creativity, class and skill during his stint at Anfield, and Lemar is able to provide much of the same in equal measure. A technically gifted midfielder, Lemar is fantastic with the ball at his feet, making the most of excellent dribbling, passing and shooting – making him a real threat going forward. He picked up 9 goals and 10 assists in the league last term, and he has followed that up with 5 assists and 2 goals this season. In truth, he’s emerging as one of Europe’s best young players – and he’d provide a massive boost to the Liverpool attack if he were to come in.

However, his arrival would go far further than that. If Klopp was able to land him, it would surely go down as a pivotal moment in Liverpool’s modern history – and if it came this year, it would be at a crucial time. Liverpool are at a crossroads. They’ve got a manager that is capable of taking them to the next level, and if he is backed with the signing of a few big names – he could really transform their fortunes. Conversely, if he isn’t backed, Liverpool could quickly find themselves back at square one.

The signing of Lemar, given the fact that a number of Europe’s biggest sides are said to be keen on him, would really put down a market for the club. In the same way that Man Utd landing Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba cemented their spot back amongst Europe’s best teams, Liverpool signing Lemar would prove that – alongside the signing of Virgil van Dijk – Anfield is once again an attractive place to play football.

For too long, Liverpool haven’t been able to compete with Europe’s best – both on the field and off of it. With the signing of Lemar, who is rated at £90 million according to the Daily Mail, however, they would prove that they mean business. They would become a team with proven credentials in their ability to sign Europe’s biggest names – whilst their performance on the pitch would improve drastically as a result.
