Klopp to look elsewhere as Liverpool look set to miss out on midfielder move

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are resigned to missing out on a deal for Naby Keita…

It appears as though Jurgen Klopp is, too, with the Times reporting that Liverpool are set to look for alternatives this summer as they recognise that a move for Keita is quickly becoming impossible.

The RB Leipzig midfielder had been installed as one of Liverpool’s primary targets this summer, but after several rejected bids and a firm no from the German outfit, it appears as though the Reds’ luck has run out for this summer at least.

Klopp will surely be frustrated by the events, but the next few weeks will now be crucial as the German looks to solidify the Reds’ position in the top four of the Premier League.

Liverpool have had a quiet summer so far, with Mohamed Salah the only major recruit so far at Anfield. The Egyptian winger is sure to have a sizeable influence next season, but Klopp will likely be wanting more.

A bit of defensive depth alongside some midfield steel will be the very least that he is expecting this summer, though with Keita joining Virgil van Dijk on Liverpool’s list of unavailable targets – the German is quickly running out of options.

With over a month until the window slams shut, though, there is still time for Liverpool to re-assess their options.
