The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern all had their eyes firmly on the big screen in the pub earlier today, with Jurgen Klopp set to deliver some news regarding their side’s upcoming clash with West Brom. The German actually revealed something that could have far greater reach for the Reds beyond the confines of their upcoming game, though.
According to Klopp, and via Ben Dinnery on Twitter, defender Alberto Moreno’s injury could be worse than first feared, with Klopp admitting that he could be out for around six weeks. Losing any player, regardless of form or quality, is a blow for any team, but there could be a silver lining for Liverpool – in that this could afford Andy Robertson an extended run in the Reds’ first team. He’s had a tough start to life at Anfield, but he’s played well in Moreno’s absence, and this blow could give him the chance he really needs to kick on.
After all, he hasn’t really had a proper chance in the Liverpool first team all season long. Moreno has been a regular, and for a while, Robertson disappeared off the map completely. He’s already proven that the decision to relegate him to the bench was a mistake, though, delivering composed and consistent performances at the back in recent weeks. Against Everton, though it wasn’t a flawless display from anyone in Red, his performance was assured and confident at the back.
His performances this season have shown that the talent is there, and his potential is clear for all to see. The longer Moreno’s injury lasts, the more time Robertson has to make it, and it could be the making of him. Do you agree? Vote below and let us know!
