Klopp’s Liverpool project could be ruined by Arsenal with transfer swoop

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping their side can put their midweek misery behind them and record a huge victory over Chelsea on Saturday evening.

Liverpool looked to be destined for the knockout-stages of the Champions League on Tuesday night after they raced into a 3 goal lead with just half an hour on the clock in Seville, but they suffered a second-half to forget and returned to the UK with plenty to do on match-day 6. Klopp will be encouraging his players to put their capitulation in Spain firmly to the back of their minds in training this week and divert their focus to a massive 6-pointer at the top of the Premier League on Saturday.

With the January transfer window moving ever-closer, Klopp will be starting to discussing potential targets with FSG based on their analysis of the team’s performance so far this season.

According to TalkSPORT, Liverpool are still in pursuit of long-term target Julian Draxler, as French media outlet L’Equipe  believe Liverpool will make a loan move for PSG’s German talent in January.

The same report states that Liverpool will face competition for his signature from Arsenal, and the outcome of this transfer story could prove to be pivotal in determining the league positions of these two sides come the end of the season.

With Sanchez looking destined to leave the club in January and Ozil by the end of the season, Wenger will be looking to bring in high-calibre replacements to fill the void left by their two stars.

Draxler still has plenty to do in European football to prove he is on the same level as either of the aforementioned players, but in Arsenal’s current situation he would be an ideal acquisition to ease the burden of their high-profile departures.

Liverpool face a similar problem as Coutinho’s future still hangs in the balance amidst speculation that Barcelona will return with a fresh transfer bid in January.

With Mane also going to the African Cup of Nations and likely to suffer from burnout or injuries as the season progresses, Liverpool will need a replacement of Draxler’s quality to step-in.

Draxler would be a perfect signing for both sides given their current situations, and whichever side convinces him to join in January will be the one that pips the other to a top-four spot next May.
