The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Ronald Koeman can get a deal or 2 done today…
After a pretty mixed few weeks, the Everton fans in the pub just can’t work out what’s going on at Goodison Park. Arguably the most inconsistent side in the Premier League, the Toffees have really struggled to get a decent run of form going as of late.
A disappointing defeat to Leicester City was, later in the same week, contrasted with a stunning 4-0 victory over Man City – in a pair of fixtures that serve as a microcosm of Everton’s season so far this year.
It’s clear that if Everton want to have any chance of breaking into the top 6, a few deals need to be made today – and Ronald Koeman has confirmed that at least one deal is still possible.
However, unfortunately for the Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern – the deal that he is referring to is that of an outgoing player, rather than an incoming one.
Arouna Kone has hardly featured this season, and it would appear as though his time at Everton could be coming to an end.
He continued: “He is…doing well but he likes to play…we have used other player[s] than Arouna. I have had some offers for him”.
Being purposefully vague, it would appear as though Ronald Koeman is open to a deal – but the likelihood of any transfer being completed appears to rest upon the shoulders of Kone himself.
Largely a bit-part figure at Everton this season, Kone has struggled to break into the side of Romelu Lukaku – with the Belgian the clear first choice at Goodison Park.
Kone is yet to make a start this season, having had to settle for substitute roles in all competitions. He has managed to bag 2 goals in the League Cup, though, which may signal that the Ivorian could yet have some worth to Koeman.
The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern think that, at 33-years-old, it is time for Kone to move on.
