The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that a solution will be found to their side’s managerial crisis over the next week or two.
The Blues’ manager, Antonio Conte, is facing an uncertain fate at the helm of the club, despite the fact that he still has a year left on his current deal, with the Blues reportedly looking to replace the Italian.
One man that has been linked with the post is Maurizio Sarri, who was recently replaced as manager of Napoli by Carlo Ancelotti.
Whether a move for Sarri happens remains to be seen, but if he does join, it will be very interesting to see how Chelsea would line up under him.
You’d expect him to turn to a few of his reliable hands, in the form of Napoli’s best players – but who would be a good fit at Chelsea?
In goal, Sarri would love nothing more than to keep hold of Thibaut Courtois. Courtois is one of Europe’s best, but with just a year left on his contract, and no renewal in sight, the Belgian’s long-term future is uncertain. Not to mention, Chelsea may be unable to resist a big money offer this summer if he refuses to sign fresh terms.
The offensively-minded Italian will likely shift to a more attacking formation, and so a four-man defence could return. As such, perhaps Cesar Azpilicueta will return to the right-hand side of the defence. Meanwhile, Emerson Palmieri – who impressed over in Sarri’s native Italy – could be given the nod over Marcos Alonso, especially given his fantastic pace. The ball-playing defender Andreas Christensen should get the nod in the middle, whilst perhaps Sarri would like to bring Kalidou Koulibaly in from current team Napoli to add some familiarity at the back.
In midfield, he won’t be able to look past N’Golo Kante. Likewise, Tiemoue Bakayoko may excel under him, especially with more of an offensive focus. A new face could come in the form of Jorginho, who has been one of the stars of the show at Napoli. He’s been simply sensational at controlling the middle of the park, and given Fabregas’ struggles, Sarri would likely love him at Stamford Bridge.
Going forward, Eden Hazard simply must stay at the club, and he’ll go straight into this team. On the opposite flank, another Napoli man – Lorenzo Insigne – could replace either Willian or Pedro, neither of whom was a constant under Antonio Conte. Alvaro Morata deserves another chance to shine, and may improve under the offensively minded Sarri.
It must be noted that, as of yet, the Blues are yet to be firmly linked with a move for any of Sarri’s regulars – but fans will certainly be hoping they join if the manager does.
Chelsea fans – what do you think of this team? Would they fit in well under Sarri, and do you think he will target them?
